Bee in the Know

Week of November 21, 2021

As we approach Thanksgiving, we are grateful for our families, students and staff who make OPHS such a great place to “bee”. We hope everyone enjoys their time off and has time to rest and recharge.

We will be having our Faculty Holiday Get Together in mid December. We are planning to raffle gift cards as prizes for our teachers and staff. Please consider donating a small gift or gift card to a restaurant, store, or service establishment to help make the raffle extraordinary for our staff! If you wish to donate, please bring it to Marie Emery in the main office prior to December 15, 2021. Thank you so much!

Thanksgiving Break

All PWCS schools and offices will be closed Wednesday, November 24 through Friday, November 26. Enjoy your Thanksgiving break!

Deadline For Required Immunizations - IMPORTANT!

The deadline for 12th grade students to meet the new immunization requirement for the Meningococcal Conjugate (MenACWY) immunization is January 6, 2022.

If proof of these required immunizations is not provided by January 5, 2022, the student will be excluded from school starting January 6, 2022, until the required immunization documentation has been provided to the school.  If you have questions, please contact the school nurse.

Are You Apart of a Military Family-We Appreciate You!

Each November is Military Family Appreciation Month! Established in 1996 by the Armed Services YMCA and the U.S. government, each year, America honors and recognizes those unique sacrifices and challenges family members make in support of their loved ones in uniform. No matter what rank or branch or where life has taken them, our nation’s military families share the common threads of service and sacrifice. OP has 362 students who are a part of military families.  OP would like to thank our military members and their families for their service and support.

OPHS Theatre

Bravo to the OPHS Theatre crew and Mr. Pugh for two wonderful performances this weekend of Almost, Maine. Please consider checking out the next performance!

Naviance Student Overview for High School Families

Tuesday, December 7th, 5:30-6:30pm

Naviance Student is a digital tool that assist students with answering the questions that will shape their future: Who Am I? What do I want to be? How will I get there? and How Will I Succeed?

The platform uses intuitive tools that personalize and simplify the college and career planning process. By attending, you will see how your child will be able to explore careers, research education options beyond high school, and apply to colleges.

SAT Prep Course

This year, the county will be offering a SAT Prep course for 60 students at each high school.  It is a 10-week course leading up to the March 12 SAT.  Students will attend two 1.5 hour sessions after school per week, alternating between math and reading/writing/language objectives.  The sessions will be led by one math teacher and one English teacher at your school.  The course is open to juniors that might benefit from this session.  If you are interested, please contact your school counselor.  The deadline to express an interest is Monday, November 30th.

World Language Announcement

Attention sophomore and juniors in World Language classes. The selection process to be nominated by OP as a candidate for the Governor's school Immersion academies has started. Talk to your teacher to find out more information about this interesting program.

Learning Together and Reaching Goals Together!

Students in the Spanish III and English Learner Programs have begun to learn together in the first of a series of discussion sessions. These conversations allow students in the two programs to get to know each other better, thus building community at OPHS. Both groups of students practiced their target languages. It was delightful to see students collaborate to share their interests while developing their skills in both English and Spanish. Mr. Robbins and Ms. Livingstone would like to continue to organize similar sessions each quarter. They hope that this will help build positive relationships within the school community.

No Place for Hate

The No Place for Hate Committee is seeking underclassmen (9th and 10th) grade students to join us in supporting an anti-bias and bully free community here at OPHS. We have been approved for a 3-Day Peer Diversity Training for committee members, so we hope to solidify our roster before December 2nd. If you are interested in joining this amazing group of young people, please attend the next NPFH Committee meeting on December 2nd in the College and Career Center or reach out to Ms. Raquedan at [email protected] for more information.
