September Jackets of the Month

Congratulations to Jenny Buffa (Social Studies teacher) and Francis Nimako (student) for winning September Jackets of the Month! Winners were nominated by staff and/or peers for displaying our Yellow Jacket attributes of Kindness, Perseverance, Hard work, Respect and Optimism. Each recipient received an OP bookbag and medal.


PSAT Senior Announcement

All high schools will run asynchronous learning for high school seniors on October 13, PSAT Day. Schools will communicate this information and details with their students and families.


New School Year Packets * IMPORTANT *

The New School Year Packet, where parents/guardians can review emergency cards, update contact information, and complete any annual policy reviews and acknowledgements, is now available in ParentVUE. All families should complete the New School Year Packet by as soon as possible. The information you provide will allow school staff to ensure the safety of your student this school year.

  1. Log into the ParentVUE app or the ParentVUE website using your ParentVUE UserID and password.
  2. Once logged into ParentVUE, click the Online Records button at the top of the screen. If you need assistance, or do not have an active ParentVUE account, please contact your student’s alpha secretary.


Touch Base Conferences

Touch Base Conferences are scheduled for Monday, October 11, 2021, from 7:30 am – 9:30 am. Touch Base is a program designed to provide parents/guardians an opportunity to have mini meetings with teachers. There are no appointments and these short 3–5-minute meetings are on a first come, first serve basis. If you need a copy of your students’ schedule, school counselors will be available in the School Counseling Department. During the conferences, parents will have an opportunity to attend one or all the workshops and gather information from local vendors, such as the Armed Services, ParentVue Support, and Office 365. The workshops are as follows:

  • Gifted Education
  • Introduction to Naviance
  • Navigating through graduation requirements to ensure that your student reaches their GRADUATION designation
  • Uncovering the myths about Advanced Placement (AP) Testing

There is no school for students on this day.


Senior Portrait Information

NEW DATES: DECEMBER 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 & 13, 2021


START TIME: 2:30 PM to 9 PM

Seniors, please log onto the website to "self-schedule" your appointment using your unique ID number (located on the appt. card which has been mailed to you) to select a date/time that is convenient for you. Or you can enter onto the, click the "Locate My School" link, enter the city and state where our school is located.  Once you find the school, you should click the school's name, and it will take you to the account to schedule an appointment. IMPORTANT: if you had a previous appointment code, you will need to find the updated code to have access to the current schedule.


School Counseling Department - Small Groups

The School Counseling Department offers a variety of small groups that meet for 6 to 8 weeks on average, including:

  • Stress Busters Small Group-Work to identify what stress is and isn't, how it affects the body and mind, and how to navigate through it all.
  • Study Skills Small Group-Learn time management techniques, organization, how to study, how to create and evaluate goals.
  • Changing Families Small Group-Focuses on working through a parent or guardian divorce, remarriage, new sibling, having a sibling with special needs.
  • Executive Functioning Small Group-Covers growth mindset skills, anger management, social skills, conflict management, communication, forgiveness, interpersonal skills.
  • Grief Small Group-Stages of grief, coping with loss and loneliness, planning a new future, honoring memories.

Hispanic Heritage Month

This week Mrs. Mullins' classes celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by making pico de gallo! Pico de gallo is also called salsa fresco and is commonly used in Mexican cuisine. This food activity also helped the students learn how to safely use knives as an introduction into kitchen safety. The delicious smell had other students and staff meandering their way down to Room 1501 to take a peek at what was going on!


From the College & Career Hive

THE FAFSA IS NOW OPEN! Seniors and families, make sure you start your FAFSA to receive money for your post-secondary planning. If you need help attend the PWCS Virtual FAFSA walk through on October 7th (see below).

Financial Aid Nights: Mark your calendar for the virtual PWCS Financial Aid nights. The first one will be on October 7th. Follow the link below for dates, Zoom links, and registration.

College Fairs: Mark your calendar for the final PWCS College Fair night. The fair will be hosted in person. The date is October 19th at Colgan High School. Follow the link for more information.

How do I log into Naviance? Click the link below to find the directions on logging into Naviance. If you need help, email, or see Mrs. Jaeger in the Career Center.

College Visits: Keep checking Naviance for updated college visits, either virtual or in person. Register under the Colleges tab and click College Visits.

ASVAB Testing: OP will host the Career Exploration Program (ASVAB) on October 20th. Sign up in Naviance under the Colleges tab and click College Visits.

Scholarships: Scholarships are being added daily to Naviance, in the monthly newsletters, and are blasted by email when available. Keep checking your email notifications. To find scholarships in Naviance, click on the Colleges tab and then Scholarships. The list of ones added by the county or Mrs. Jaeger are found in Local Scholarships.

Virtual Virginia (VVA)

If your student is enrolled in a course through Virtual Virginia, students are expected to log in their VVA courses daily, attend synchronous instruction sessions, and complete assigned coursework according to instructor deadlines.

If a student is unable to attend a synchronous session, they are responsible for watching the session recording in the Course Video Library. The parent/guardian should communicate directly with the local school regarding excused or unexcused absences.

If a student does not log into the LMS for 4 consecutive instructional days, the student, parent/guardian, assigned mentor, and counselor of record will receive a "no login or activity" warning email message. A student who is inactive or fails to complete coursework over a second period of 4 consecutive instructional days (for a total of 8 days) will be administratively withdrawn from the course.

A reinstatement conference involving the student, parent/guardian, counselor of record, and a VVA administrator is required to reinstate students in a Virtual Virginia course. If reinstated, the student will be placed on a Pace Recovery Plan (PRP), designed to support learners as they make up missing coursework and catch up with their assigned cohort. A student who does not adhere to the PRP in its entirety will be administratively withdrawn from the VVA course.

Library Update

The library is buzzing with activity! Just as a reminder, we allow three books for three weeks (renewals for those who would like to extend their check out dates). While we no longer charge for late returns, we still have fines for lost or damaged books. Please stop by or email us at [email protected] if you have book suggestions for purchase.

The book club will be reading one of our Virginia Readers’ Choice books for this school year- How We Became Wicked by Alexander Yates after school in the library on Tuesday, October 12th . If you are interested in the other books chosen by English teachers and librarians from Virginia, check out the list here. Towards the end of the school year, students can vote for their favorite book if they have read 4 of the 10 books. Prizes will be awarded for participation.

The next game club will meet after school on Tuesday, October 5th. Those who wish to play board games, meet in the library. Those who wish to play D&D but not sure where to go, come to the library and we will direct you.


PWCS educators Katherine Fielding and Elizabeth Marlowe named Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts

Congratulations to Katherine Fielding, ITC for Woodbridge High School, and Elizabeth Marlowe, English teacher at Osbourn Park High School, who were selected as 2021-22 Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts. More information about the Microsoft Innovative Educator programs can be found at the Microsoft Education Center.


SIGNET Seminars

SIGNET Seminars have begun! Students can view the SIGNET schedule through the Canvas Course, if interested. Our first Seminar for grades 9-11 involved some professional goal setting and discovering ways OPHS can support student goals. Completed copies of these forms as well as the Differentiated Service Plan for your student will be coming home in the next few weeks. SIGNET 9 kicked off this week, SIGNET 10 next week, with SIGNET 11 the following. Everyone has been invited to the appropriate Canvas course – students can reference this course for relevant updates, content, and as a way to communicate with us. We’re excited to dive into content in the middle of October!

Looking for a great way to enrich your student’s summer? 10th and 11th grade students interested in applying to one of the Summer Residential Governor’s School programs for 2022 should plan to attend one of the upcoming information sessions. Visit the PWCS SRGS website for additional information about each program. Please sign up to attend the Arts (Friday, October 8th) and/or Academic (Friday, October 22nd) interest meetings. This info-session is for students only and those that sign up will receive a pass to attend. Parents and guardians who wish to learn more information about the SRGS program will be given an opportunity to attend an after-school meeting. More information will be pushed out regarding this in the near future.

Reminder: 9th and 10th grade students must return the yellow Permission for Services forms as soon as possible to avoid a disruption in services.

Writing SOL Review

Seniors who need to take the writing SOL: Review sessions begin Thursday, 9/30, and continue every Tuesday and Thursday after school until Thursday, 10/14. We will meet in Ms. Zelinger's room, #2040, from 2:20 - 3:20 p.m. Come to one or all sessions to review skills for the multiple-choice test and persuasive writing for the short essay test. Please sign up using this link (will help us with planning material and space) or simply show up.

A Crossing Guard position may be for you!

Prince William County is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Crossing Guard. Positions are currently available in the Manassas, Gainesville, and Haymarket areas. This part time employment will allow you to have the middle of day free, paid training and uniforms, and accrue sick and annual leave.

New Yellow Jacket Spotlight!

Natasha Littlepage is a PWCS graduate and joining OP as a Special Education Teacher. This is her fourth school year with the county. She enjoys writing, reading, and watching documentaries (especially ones on historical events).

Joe Hamilton - Mr. Hamilton is one of our new SPED teachers working with our Intellectually Disabled students. He has been working with these students for the past 3 years as a teacher assistant while he earned his degree. Mr. Hamilton is a former basketball player at the collegiate level and he currently works with our boys' basketball team as the Freshmen coach.

Jonelle Brown: World Languages ¡Hola! My name is Ms. Brown, or Senorita Brown to my students. I am teaching Spanish 1 & 2 for my first year here at OPHS. I am a PWCS grad myself; I grew up in Woodbridge and attended Porter Traditional and Hylton High School. Then, I obtained both my bachelor's and master's degrees from Christopher Newport University. Some fun facts about me: I have a goal to speak at least four languages one day (I am working on my 3rd - Arabic, next is French!), I have a twin brother (we look nothing alike), and I have traveled abroad to 8 different countries. My longest trip was to the Dominican Republic for 3.5 months. If you ever see me, say hello! :)

Jazzmine Rich- My name is Ms. Jazzmine Rich and I am a new school counselor here at OP. This will be my third year as a school counselor but my 8th school year in education. For four years I taught as a Special Education teacher servicing elementary, middle, and high school students and families. I received my master's degree from Virginia State University, my bachelor's from Virginia Union University, and an endorsement in Special Education from Regent University. I serviced the youth within Richmond, VA, and surrounding counties in mental/behavioral health for 8 years. Within the role as a community counselor, I learned that I wanted to expose, impact and support students' success in all areas ranging from personal daily challenges to decision making on college or career paths. I am excited to work with all students and families at Osborn Park and I am looking forward to meeting all of you.



Effective Monday, October 4, no backpacks will be allowed in any athletic venues at Osbourn Park High School during sports events.  Admittance to the game will be denied starting October 4th if you arrive at an athletic venue with a backpack.
